Shalqi/Boston

After a trying Albanian language lesson wherein we began to tackle conjugating nouns/adjectives in singular/plural, feminine/masculine, and definite/indefinite plus changing them for the five different cases (nominative, accusative, genitive, dative, ablative), an afternoon snack of shalqi (or in the Kosovar dialect, boston) with the host parents was much appreciated.

Bonus photo: after classes our LCF’s, Florim and Durim, taught us a couple of Albanian dances. After one of my fellow volunteers, Rachel, taught them how to wiggle. A fun, albeit sweaty, afternoon for all involved.

    1. Nope! Stress is on the second syllable and while we pronounce Boston more like BOST-in or sometimes BOST-en, this is more like bas-TONE. At least, that’s how I have been hearing it pronounced. But shalqi (pronounced shal-chi) is the standard Albanian word.
