My counterpart Halim showed up today with this great roll-out mat with the numbers 1-12 written (the numerals and the numbers, albeit in Albanian) and we had some good times letting the first graders play with it. Then we colored in the A page of our alphabet books, which included “apple” (obvious choice), “ant” (slightly more obscure but still a pretty common one), “alligator” (lot of alligator/crocodile confusion encountered there) and… “umbrella”. Because it’s the last syllable of the word, I guess?
